Athlete check-in will take place at the Galt House Hotel & Suites (140 N. Fourth Street, Louisville, KY 40202) beginning Thursday, August 27. Please refer to the event schedule for the hours of athlete check-in. To complete the check-in process, athletes will need photo identification and show proof of current USA Triathlon (USAT) membership or purchase a one-day license ($10.00 USD). In addition to emergency contact information, we will also ask each athlete to provide the name, room number and phone number of the hotel or private residence where they will be staying during race week. ALL RACE PACKETS MUST BE PICKED UP BY 5:00 P.M. ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 27. Professional athletes are required to submit proof of professional status at check-in.
Athlete Wristband
A wristband printed with your race number will be affixed to your wrist at athlete check-in. This band will identify you as an official participant and must be worn during the entire week. The wristband is required for medical identification purposes and allows you access to the banquets, transition area and post-race athlete recovery area. You will not be allowed to remove your bicycle and/or gear from the transition area following the race without your wristband affixed to your wrist. Please do not remove your wristband until after the awards banquet or you will be denied entry.
Mandatory Bike, Helmet & Gear Bag Check-In
Mandatory bike, helmet and gear bag check-in is Saturday, August 28 from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Great Lawn (Waterfront Park). All bicycles, helmets, bike shoes and gear bags must be checked into the transition area and left overnight. You will have access to your bike and gear bags beginning at 5:00 a.m. on race morning, but you will not be allowed to remove your bike from transition until the start of the bike portion of the race. All helmets and bike shoes must be placed in the blue bike gear bag. You are not allowed to clip your shoes into your bike pedals race morning or leave your helmet on your bike race morning.
You will receive a blue bike gear bag and a red run gear bag at athlete check-in. Please pack your gear in the appropriate bag and place them on the proper location in the bag area. Be sure your running gear has reflective material on the front and back of your clothes and shoes.
Be sure all of your gear is clearly marked with your name and race number. Bicycles, helmets and bike and run gear bags will not be permitted to enter the transition area on race morning. Full bike covers are not permitted.
Morning Clothes Bag
You will receive a green morning clothes bag at athlete check-in. Prior to the swim start on race morning, place any items (e.g., dry clothes, car or hotel room key, meds) you may need at the finish line in your morning clothes bag. Leave the bag in the designated drop area at the swim start at Tumbleweed's. Your bag may be retrieved after the race in the athlete recovery area at KICC. Any items that do not fit inside the morning clothes bag, such as bike pumps and backpacks, will not be accepted.
Race Morning Check-in Procedure
The transition area will open at 5:00 a.m. on race day. Body marking will also begin at this time in the parking lot of Tumbleweed Restaurant. It is recommended that you check into the transition area first, get everything situated for race day and then proceed to body marking near the swim start. Please do not number yourself. You will not be permitted in the transition area on race day without your wristband, swim cap and timing chip. If you have misplaced any of these items, please see the transition area director for a replacement. Please do not apply sunscreen, oil, Vaseline or lotion until after you have been body marked.
Bike and Run Special Needs Bags
You will receive a blue bike special needs bag and red run special needs bag at athlete check-in. A special needs station will be located near the mid-point on the bike and run course. These special needs stations are for special needs purposes, such as nutritional items or an extra pair of socks, etc. All unclaimed bags will be discarded after the station is closed. Prior to the swim start, leave your bags in the designated drop area inside the transition area. Note: Please do not put anything valuable in your bike or run special needs bags as you will not get them back if not claimed on the course
